Frequently Asked Questions

01

WILL I BE REQUIRED TO JOIN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES AS PART OF BEING A CADET?

No. We are not a recruiting vesicle for the armed services. Upon graduation from high school and completion of the Virginia Army Cadet Corps program, cadets have no required commitment to future military service.

02

I WANT TO ENLIST IN THE MILITARY AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. HOW CAN BEING AN ARMY CADET HELP ME?

For those cadets who decide to enlist in the military, their prior training as an Army Cadet will help prepare you mentally and physically for your journey into the United States Military. We have a diverse training staff with extensive military backgrounds, who can help guide your toward the military career path you wish to pursue.

03

AS AN ADULT ARE THERE WAYS FOR ME TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS PROGRAM?

Yes. There are several ways adults (over the age of 18) can be involved in and out of uniform such as:

  • Leadership and training of the cadets (Uniformed)

  • Administration work in our Headquarters Detachment (Uniformed)

  • Food Service

  • Enlist in our Adult Training Program. The Adult Training Program, which is only offered in a Composite Battalion, is a Company whose personnel (Enlisted and Commissioned) are all adults. This Advanced Training allows for parents and other adults not in a leadership position to train alongside their cadets and learn the military way of life.

  • OR become a non-uniformed volunteer.

04

CAN ANYONE JOIN?

We welcome all applicants who meet the above membership requirements. The Virginia Army Cadet Corps will never discriminate based on race, sex, color, religion, national origin or disability.

05

WILL I HAVE TO PAY MEMBERSHIP FEES?

  • Yes. Your enrollment fee includes premiums paid toward the VACC Accident and Health Protection Plan. This is our insurance plan, designed to keep you covered in the low likelihood of something happening during a cadet-sponsored training event. It is important to us that the membership fees are minimal in order to be accessible to as many people as possible.

  • Annual enrollment fees are based on four factors:  cost of program operation and administration by Active Detachment; cost of group accident and health premium; cost of liability insurance premium.

WHAT ABOUT HAIRCUTS? WILL I BE REQUIRED TO CUT MY HAIR?

YES. Participating in this program requires following Grooming Standards set forward by US Army Regulations, NO EXCEPTIONS.
